Jack

Sad to write that Jack G. has passed away. Almost twelve years ago, his foster Glenise told us that he was a wonderful sweet boy. She also said that he “talked back” and boy did he ever. Jack was not shy about telling you his wants. He would often start barking at us for his dinner as early as Noon! He was one tough cookie. Before we adopted him, he had to be neutered twice and jumped a fence where he got hit by a car requiring stitches in his head. About a year after we got him, he was attacked by a German Shepherd. He wagged his tail on his walk home. At nine, he had two teeth removed and a cleaning. A couple of days later, he couldn’t walk on his back left leg. After much expense, we found out he had an infection in a disc in his lower spine. He recovered but about six months later, we saw a mass in his mouth that turned out to be cancer. They gave him three months to two years to live. He lasted almost four. We always said he was a good boy who was naughty. No food left out was safe. We had to put baby locks on the kitchen cabinet to keep him out of the garbage. Thanks for an adventurous journey, Jack-Jack!

There was much I left out in my email. On his last day at the vet, they had a sign with a glass jar filled with Hersey Kisses. The sign read, “No dogs should leave this earth without tasting chocolate.” I told the vet tech that unfortunately Jack had tasted chocolate several times along with two pounds of red grapes, flavored coffee grounds with uncooked white rice, and many other things. My favorite story we often told was when he pried open a jar of peanut butter and ate down as far as his tongue could reach. But most of all, we loved him and he loved us back. Life was never dull with Jack.
