A Penny Saved Is a Friend Earned

Meet sweet Penny! This beautiful 1½-year-old Lab/Great Pyrenees mix is just as lucky as a penny found heads up. She’s up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed, and ready to find the active home she deserves.

Penny is an intelligent, inquisitive girl who loves being part of whatever her people are doing. She forms strong bonds with her humans and happily interrupts her adventures for pets, cuddles, and kisses. She truly loves people and never misses an opportunity to make a new friend.

This lovable girl is fully house-trained and rings a bell at the door when she needs to go outside. She rides wonderfully in the car and is always ready to tag along for the next adventure. Penny knows basic commands like sit and stay, takes treats gently, and enjoys learning new things. Like many young dogs, however, her listening skills can disappear when something exciting catches her attention—especially rabbits, thanks to her strong prey drive.

Penny absolutely adores other dogs. She currently lives with four Labrador Retrievers and loves, loves, loves to play. She gets excited whenever she spots potential canine friends and would thrive with another playful dog companion. Her play style can be rough and persistent—not mean, just enthusiastic—and she keeps coming back for more fun.

Because Penny is still a young, energetic dog, she can accidentally knock people over when she’s excited. For that reason, she would do best in a home without frail individuals or very young children.

Penny is looking for a very specific home that can safely manage her adventurous spirit. She is not crate-trained and has proven remarkably skilled at escaping from crates. She also cannot be tied out, as she chews through tethers and tie-outs.

While Penny can easily clear her foster family’s 52-inch fence, she isn’t trying to run away from her people. In fact, she loves being with them and always returns home. When her foster family is outside with her, she happily stays in the yard and enjoys being part of whatever they’re doing. However, if left to her own devices outdoors, her curiosity can get the better of her and she may jump the fence to explore.

Because of this, Penny would do best with either a securely fenced yard or a very active, attentive family committed to supervising her outdoor time. She would especially thrive in a rural or country setting where she has room to stretch her legs, explore safely, and be included in daily activities. Penny loves being outdoors, follows the neighboring farmer around whenever she gets the chance, and is happiest when she’s right alongside her people.

Penny enjoys staying busy and would make an excellent hiking partner, farm companion, or adventure buddy. She needs regular physical exercise, continued training, and mental stimulation to be her best self. She is happiest when she has a job to do, people to love, and plenty of opportunities to play.

Penny does have a prey drive and should not live with small animals. She also prefers not to share her food with other dogs and will guard her meals, so feeding separately is recommended.
