Maggie
Maggie: The Gentle Soul Who’s Always Close By
Meet Maggie, a beautiful 2½-year-old, 76-pound, almost-white Labrador Retriever. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and ready to find the family who will cherish her sweet and gentle heart.
There’s something incredibly comforting about Maggie. She has a quiet way of making herself part of every moment, whether she’s resting nearby while you work, following you from room to room, or checking in to see what everyone else is doing. She’s happiest when life is simple and she’s surrounded by the people and dogs she loves.
Maggie is house-trained, crate-trained, and wonderfully respectful inside the home. She’s trustworthy with household items, ignores anything left on the counters, and has excellent manners throughout the day. She cooperates nicely for brushing, baths, and ear cleanings, although she’d much rather skip nail trims if given the choice.
She already knows sit, wait, and crate, and she’s eager to continue learning. Since she hasn’t had much experience walking on a leash, she’ll need someone willing to help her discover that walks can be fun instead of confusing. With her calm temperament and desire to please, she’s sure to blossom with patient guidance and positive reinforcement.
One of Maggie’s sweetest qualities is how devoted she is to her family. She adores children and greets people politely without jumping. While she’s beginning to discover the fun of toys, she’s just as content spending time chewing on a favorite Benebone or relaxing beside her favorite humans. She rides quietly in the car and settles into her crate at bedtime without a fuss.
She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys keeping an eye on her brother, Myles, and her foster brother, Finn. Maggie likes knowing where everyone is and feels most comfortable when she’s surrounded by her people and canine companions. She hasn’t been tested with cats, but birds and rabbits are far too entertaining to ignore, so she’d likely enjoy having a fenced yard where she can safely watch the world go by.
Although Maggie is calm by nature, she’s also thoughtful. New situations make her pause while she figures things out, and she prefers to take life at her own pace. Basement stairs are still a work in progress, but once she realizes something is safe, her confidence continues to grow. Her future family will have the joy of watching those little milestones turn into big accomplishments.
She also has a protective streak and isn’t afraid to let you know when something unusual is happening outside. A quick bark lets you know she’s paying attention before she settles back into her peaceful routine.
Maggie isn’t the kind of dog who needs to be the center of attention. Instead, she’s the steady companion who quietly becomes part of your everyday life—the dog waiting by the door when you get home, curled up nearby during movie nights, and always ready to offer silent companionship. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend with a gentle heart and an easygoing spirit, Maggie may be the one you’ve been waiting for.
Maggie is being fostered in a northwest suburb of Chicago.
