Lilly – COMING SOON

A Little Lab With a Whole Lot of Magic

This Lab is currently in a foster home, which is CILRA’s standard practice and allows us to learn more about the Lab before they are officially ready for adoption. It gives us time to evaluate the Lab’s personality, bring them up-to-date on vaccinations, and have them spayed/neutered if needed. If you are interested in this Lab, please keep checking the website for status updates or send an email of interest to CILRAlabs@yahoo.com.

Once upon a time, there was a 10-month-old black female Labrador Retriever named Lilly, weighing about 50 pounds. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations, and she’s searching for the happily-ever-after she’s been waiting for. Lilly has already had a little adventure of her own, spending a month at a puppy training facility in Lafayette, Indiana, where she learned basic commands and practiced socializing with other dogs. She’s already showing off some of her lessons by knowing “sit” and “drop it,” and she’s ready to keep learning alongside her forever family.

Lilly’s magical superpower just might be her ability to turn absolutely anything into playtime. She gets along wonderfully with the dogs in her foster home and believes that running, wrestling, romping, and generally being delightfully silly are all essential parts of a good day. She’s got plenty of puppy energy to spare, so her happily-ever-after should include plenty of play, activity, adventures, and opportunities to keep her clever Lab brain busy.

And when adventure time is over, Lilly knows how to settle into her own little castle. She sleeps happily in her crate in a separate room from her foster family and has no trouble going into her crate when it’s time to settle down. She’s also proving that she’s quite the little adventurer on a leash — Lilly does great on leash walks and is ready to explore the world with her people.

Like any young princess-in-training, Lilly is still working on her manners. She has discovered that kitchen counters can be suspiciously convenient sources of delicious treasures and sometimes tries to help herself to whatever her foster family is preparing. With patience, consistency, and continued training, she’s learning that good girls keep all four paws on the floor.

Lilly is also wonderfully enthusiastic about making new friends. When she met her foster’s cat, she immediately dropped into a play bow and wiggled from her nose to the tip of her tail, clearly announcing, “Let’s play!”. The resident feline, however, was not exactly enchanted by her royal invitation. Because Lilly is so eager and playful, she’ll need guidance around cats while she learns to respect their boundaries.

Lilly may still have a few puppy lessons left to learn, but she’s already showing all the makings of a wonderful companion. She’s playful, social, affectionate, eager to learn, and absolutely full of life. Her story is only just beginning, and she’s hoping the next chapter leads her straight to a family who will help her grow, learn, explore, and live happily ever after.

After all, every fairytale needs a little magic — and Lilly has plenty to share.

Lilly is currently being fostered in Warsaw, Indiana.

Adopting a Lab can be a wonderful experience. Your new dog will need lots of love, adequate exercise and attention. Keep in mind that dog ownership may include additional costs for training, grooming, and health care beyond annual vaccines and monthly preventatives. It’s a lifetime commitment!
